Cool Internet Stuff Mania Week

In this wonderful Wrestlemania week there are some thing that I saw that was worth checking out and sharing with you the Ring Time Pro Wrestling family.

Slither Madness is Going Strong
The greatest tournament of all time is still going strong. In the Wrestling Region the finals feature two familiar foes. Vote for them and your other favorite categories

Undertaker vs Triple H Battle Rap

So you wondered what John Morrison has been doing since he left the WWF, well here you go. He put out one of the funniest wrestling videos that we have seen in a long time. The Triple H vs Undertaker battle rap is classic stuff. Too bad the WWF did not figure out on how to capitalize on this creativity when Morrison was on the active roster.

2012 WWE Hall of Famer Mil Mascaras

As we gear up for the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame there is one inductee that you may or may not be that familiar with. He is a member of one of wrestling's most prominent families and is the uncle of current star Alberto Del Rio. Máscaras was one of the first masked luchadores outside of Mexico to play a non-heel role. Check him out on youtube when you get a chance.

Cena vs Rock is Not The Biggest Wrestlemania Main Event Ever

One thing I have heard over and over again leading up to this Wrestlemania is how The Rock vs John Cena is the biggest main event in history of the event. Of course every year they like to tell you how you are seeing history and every main event is set to be a classic but let ease your mind that this is not the biggest main event ever at a Wrestlemania. How do I know? Well I will give some previous main events that were larger in scale and did not have the benefit of one year of promotion.

Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior
Wrestlemania VI in the Toronto Skydome feature two of the biggest superstars of an era. This is one of the first time a two babyfaces went at it in the Main Event on the big stage. There was definitely a divide among the WWF fan base. Were Hulkamanics going to win out over the Little Warriors? This was the first ever threat to the idea of Hogan being the undisputed man in the WWF. The man who headlined the previous 5 big shows. Wrestlemania was making new historic ground as this was the first ever Mania held outside of the United States. The match also was the first time we a saw a title for title match as The Warrior was the Intercontinental Champion and Hulk Hogan held the world title.

Stone Cold vs The Rock WM17
Although these gentlemen have faced off at 2 other Wrestlemania's none was bigger than their match at Wrestlemania 17 in Houston. Had they faced in Wrestlemania before and for the title? Yes they had. This time it was different because of not only their individual popularity but the new found popularity of the WWF. This was the height of the Attitude Era and WCW was on its last legs. There were two men who had led the charge against the Turner juggernaut in the famed Monday Night Wars.

Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant
There is no bigger main event than the irresistible force meeting the immovable object. Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan sold out the Pontiac Silverdome for Wrestlemania III. This was the match that was used to sell 93000 tickets and push the WWF to the next level. Andre The Giant was the unquestioned biggest attraction in professional wrestling and had been for some time. Hulk Hogan had been the world champion for 3 years by this time and taken down every foe to this point.

This match served as the official passing of the torch as the wrestling business was completely shifting gears. As the territory system was at the end of the line and cable was changing the entire business, this match put the wrestling in Hogan's hands. This main event solidified Wrestlemania as an institution in the world of wrestling.

Celebrity Mania

This year it appears that Wrestlemania is missing a major piece. There does not appear to be the major celebrity involvement in this years event. Not that its an essential element but it has always been a big part of the event. No some may argue that The Rock is a celebrity but my position that he is a member of the WWF family who just happens to have a pop culture presence.

Is this a diss to Maria Menounos but she does not really move the meter. The past celebs like Refrigerator Perry, Mr. T or even a Snooki. These people had a large appeal and cross over many audiences. It was rumored that Shaquille O'Neal was going to have some involvement but I am not hanging my hat on that one. The WWF would not wait this long to use such a big name.

In the spirit of the Wrestlemania celebrity I figured I would put together a short list of the most important celebs at the event.

Donald Trump
Despite my personal feeling about Trump(douche-bag) he has been a big time contributor to Wrestlemania. Starting at Wrestlemania's 4 and 5 where he hosted them at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. Most recently The Donald was apart of Wrestlemania 23 where he participated in The Battle of the Billionaires with Vince McMahon. This is one of biggest events in the history of Mania. At the time his show the Apprentice was at the height of its popularity and brought a lot eyes to the event

Mr. T
The 1st and 2nd Wrestlemania's featured one of TV's biggest stars of the 1980's. Mr T's presence at the big event maybe the most important celeb involvement in the history of Mania.

As a big part of the first ever main event he was critical to the success of Wrestlemania. If the first ever was not a big success the WWF would have been in big trouble. The A-Team was one of the biggest shows at the time and gave the event mainstream credibility. He and Hogan did a lot of mainstream press and shows like Saturday Night Live.

Cyndi Lauper
If there is another celeb that can take credit for the major cross appeal of Wrestlemania it is Cyndi Lauper. The Rock N Wrestling connection was one biggest keys to the launch of the event. The cross between the wrestling and MTV audiences was a major key to the kick off to wrestling's big event.

Oklahoma Bans Pro Wrestling March 31st

When I first saw this story on different wrestling new outlets I thought it was fake. It appears that as of March 31st the state of Oklahoma has been professional wrestling as well as other combat sports in the state. Talk about a case of politics going way too far.

It seems like a weird move since the state has a such a storied history of wrestling, both amateur and professional. The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission has notified promoters that it will not accept applications for pro wrestling, MMA and boxing events to be held in the state past March 31, which more or less bans the events from legally taking place in the state.
This ban is expected to effect over 200 events scheduled in the state this year including a WWF Raw scheduled for October 1st in Oklahoma City. It is believed this in response to the UFC lawsuit filed against the state. The Sooner state currently charges a 4% tax on pay per view buys no matter the event is held on its citizens who order the events.
Somebody better call wrestling's favorite Oklahoma resident so we can get this fixed.

Random Wrestling Thoughts

Today's blog is just some random thoughts I have had about the wrestling business. So I figured I would share with the rest of you.

Maybe There Should Have Been a Miz Face Turn
The Miz has went from Wrestlemania headliner to an after thought very quickly. Well actually that is pretty normal in today's wrestling business a lot of careers have not had the staying power that they used too. One of my random thoughts was that maybe he should have a had a face turn to spice up his character. As good as he is a heel and as much hate as he inspires he may have been better as a face. He is obviously popular and was a good ambassador for the company. His talk show appearances shows that he has serious pop culture appeal.

Why Did TNA Never Fully Bet on AJ
When I think of TNA the first name I think of is AJ Styles. Even more then their founder Jeff Jarrett. It just never seems to me that the company never really hitched its wagon to Styles. He has held every title in the organization and rarely disappoints when put in the big spot. There was a time where it seemed like they were going to let him shine when he had his feud with Kurt Angle which led to some classic matches but after infusion of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff in the company all of that seemed to stop. As the company appears to be getting back to its roots hopefully they will give AJ a try again.

Weekly DVD Selection - Rowdy Roddy Piper Born To Controversy

We are also returning the Weekly DVD suggestion at Ring Time Pro Wrestling. No better way to bring this back than with the bio of one Rowdy Roddy Piper. There could be no better title for this video than "Born To Controversy". Piper throughout his entire career was never afraid to stir it up.
The video follows one of the greatest mic workers in the history of the business. Follow his Hall of Fame career from the AWA to Mid Atlantic Wrestling and finally his road to superstar status in the WWF. As one of the men who helped headline the first ever Wrestlemania, Piper has had a very storied career. The WWF rarely disappoints with their biographies and this is no exception.
